The Wisconsin DNR will hold a free workshop on electronics collection site best management practices May 31 in Fitchburg (just outside of Madison). This workshop will be focused on site-level requirements and best management practices for drop-off sites and events that collect electronics and universal waste.
If you collect or recycle electronics, oversee an electronics collection program, or represent a municipality contracting for e-cycling services, we recommend you attend. We also encourage anyone wanting to understand the rules and best management practices for collecting electronics and universal waste (such as lamps and batteries) to attend. The workshop will also provide an update on the E-Cycle Wisconsin program and information to help you find reputable recyclers to manage your electronics responsibly.
While we encourage everyone to attend in person if at all possible, we will offer a webinar option via a Skype meeting. If you select this option on the registration form, you will receive an invitation to the Skype meeting with a link and call-in number. The meeting will not be recorded.
Date and time: Wednesday, May 31, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: DNR Fitchburg Service Center, 3911 Fish Hatchery Rd, or via Skype
Contact: Sarah Murray, 608-264-6001
In the afternoon, the DNR will hold a free workshop for recycling responsible units (RUs). Topics covered will include the components of an effective recycling program and changes in the DNR recycling program. The goal of the RU workshop is to encourage sharing and interaction among RUs within the region and as a compliance component of local recycling programs. RUs that attend and participate in this workshop will not be subject to a one-on-one RU evaluation by the DNR for a period of at least three years. RUs will be asked to bring along their recycling ordinance, compliance assurance plan, education/outreach materials and any enforcement/complaint tools used in the RU. Come with any questions you may have.
