Notes From The HCE Co-Presidentshce-pres

Another busy month has passed for Kewaunee County HCE members. The annual Salad Supper was successful once again. The funds raised at the Salad Supper help support our HCE scholarship program.  This year we are able to award two scholarships to granddaughters of our members.  Congratulations to Ann Kroll, granddaughter of Joan Karl and Caitlyn Lacey, granddaughter of Anita Schuller.

Our members have been busy working on bookmarks to give away at our HCE booth at Wisconsin Farm Technology Days.  This event will be held here in Kewaunee County, July 11-13 at Ebert Enterprises.  We have exceeded our goal of making 1,000 bookmarks to hand out in our booth.  Thanks to all of our members who helped make the bookmarks. Judy and Mari have both been busy attending FTD meetings working on details to help make this a successful event.

We have again donated to the Kewaunee County Back to School Program, which will help students start out the school year with needed school supplies.  At this time, we stopped collecting backpacks and school supplies for Wisconsin Nicaragua Partners, as the warehouse in Stevens Point is full.  The sewing supplies collection scheduled for July 22 has also been cancelled.

There are many activities in our county and at our schools that our HCE members are volunteering for such as helping children learn to garden or helping to welcome new families to the area.  If you are interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities, contact Mari.

Our apologies to Judy Oftedahl, she was one of the presenters of Ancient Grains in February.  We are still hearing compliments of the awesome program she and Linda Vogel presented.

Our hearts are saddened by the loss of our member Kim Koss, who passed away on March 27.  Many of us have treasured items hand made by Kim.

Respectfully submitted,

Co-Presidents Mari Fager & Judy Malcore , Kewaunee County HCE

2017 HCE Banquet

The 2017 Kewaunee County HCE Annual Banquet was held on May 2, 2017 at the Rendezvous, Luxemburg. The Hilltoppers HCE club was the host club with the theme “HCE– A Reflection of You”. The entertainment of the evening was Barb Chisholm, portraying her great grandmother who survived the Peshtigo Fire that also burned in the town of Williamsonville, with a population of 77 persons on October 8, 1871. Her reenactment brought awareness of the horror of losing so much to a tornado of fire.

First year HCE members were recognized, and the Outstanding HCE member of 2017 was Jan Tess, of Hilltoppers HCE. Our two HCE scholarship candidates are Anna Kroll, Granddaughter of Joan Karl, and Kaitlin Lacy, Granddaughter of Anita Schuller. The chosen recipient of the Barbara Hartjes scholarship is Mitchell Kudick.
